Dale’s Baked Beans Recipe



  • 4 cups white navy beans
  • ½ pound salt pork – rinse in cold water – then cut into 1-inch cubes (or use Bacon, but don't rinse).
  • 1 onion – finely cut.
  • ½ cup fancy molasses
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dry mustard
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • Sort and rinse beans.

  1. SOAK BEANS OVERNIGHT in cold water. Drain.
  2. Add 10 cups cold water, cover, heat to boiling, then simmer 30 minutes or until nearly tender.
  3. Drain – reserve the water.
  4. Add ingredients (except pork/bacon) in with the beans, stirring gently to combine
  5. Pour entire mixture into the bean pot.
  6. Add enough reserved water to cover mixture
  7. Place pork/bacon on top – push down into mixture.
  8. Cover with lid and bake in oven at 250°F for 7 hours.
  9. Add reserved water as needed to keep beans covered. One hour before serving, remove cover to darken up the beans.
