Ride to Crescent Beach

Went for a ride to Crescent Beach and back today (51 Km). Another ride on busy streets – but there’s good bike lanes for the most part. My family and I have been here many times. So very beautiful. Fantastic sunsets that are well worth the wait.

Quite a ride today!

Quite a ride today! 41.8 Km to Serpentine Fen Park and back – all the way across Surrey on some of the busiest roads in this city. There were good bike lanes for the most part, but a lot of big trucks whizzing by two feet away is no fun – don't tell my daughter Angela. Most traffic I’ve faced riding my bike so far. Plus the park was no big deal – not much more than a big swamp. I should have looked-up “Fen” first – as it means: a low and marshy or frequently flooded area of land. But bird watchers like it and I did get some good exercise.

New trail in Surrey

Nice ride today (27.8 Km) across Surrey and then over to Coquitlam. Found a new trail in Surrey – short, but nice. Got very steep at the end – quite a challenge for me and my bike!

The mighty Fraser River

The mighty Fraser River is looking a little extra scenic today. 42.4 Km ride today on Barnston Island (Again). Sunny and warm – just enough wind to keep the bugs away. Very nice day.

Under the Port Mann Bridge – Surrey Side.

Under the Port Mann Bridge – Surrey Side. A short but interesting ride today. It’s a little difficult to get to the underside of the bridge on the Surrey side – a new park is being constructed – it used to be a landfill. Then rode over to the Patullo Bridge on the Surrey side to investigate possibly riding across. There is no way I’m doing it! It is the path of certain death! Very narrow. . . too much so! Google: “cycling across the Patullo Bridge.” You’ll see. Good health Stats for this ride – copy included.

Mariner eBike meets T-Rex eDino

Mariner eBike meets T-Rex eDino at a used car dealership in Surrey. He doesn't go very fast, but makes roaring sounds, head goes up and down and the jaws open and close. Lordy, you never know what you may find when you’re out on a ride! Unlike when I saw that big Black Bear, I thought – just maybe - it is safe to stop and take a photo.

Zee Trail of Death

"Zee Trail of Death" - Went for a ride today to Colony Farm in Coquitlam - 30 Km. The trip includes a 1 Km trail that is very narrow, blackberry vines on the sides, muddy, rocky, twisty and rooty. I call it The Zee Trail of Death ( Spoken with a French Foreign Legion accent). The only other option is the Mary Hill Bypass - which is like riding along-side a Freeway! Except for the trail, a very nice ride in perfect Weather.

Air is the Enemy!

Air is the Enemy! Yes, I got another new toy. Now I will be able to buy in bulk and seal food properly. Food will keep fresher longer in the fridge. Plus, I hope to eliminate freezer burn entirely. Today, cold storage. Tomorrow, the World! Ha Ha!

My New Toy

My new toy. . . for slicing meat (and other food). 200 watts of power, with two 9 inch blades: smooth and serrated. First use today - about one pound of ham. Works about 100 times better than me using a knife to slice the ham.

Lunch with Arjun and Tony

Went out for lunch today with my good friends Arjun Singh and Tony Chandi from Active Insurance Agency. It has been far too long since I’ve seen these two great Guys – over 5 years. Few people on this Earth have been as nice to me as these two! I will not wait too long to see them again and I’m paying for lunch next time.

Lumpy and Bumpy

Cooking two turkeys this year – about 12 lbs. Each. I’ve named them “Lumpy and Bumpy” as there are nine skinless chicken thighs placed under the skin of the turkeys. The skin from the chicken thighs is stretched-out over the top of the turkeys. Extra effort to try and get a tender and moist cooked turkey meat for Christmas dinner!

Peanut Butter, Jam and Sardine Sandwich

Peanut Butter, Jam and Sardine sandwich. Which includes my "homemade" cream of strawberry jam. It was good, but I think my taste buds have deteriorated over time as I could just barely taste the sardines. No one else here at home would try a bite, including Angela (no surprise). It was a very filling sandwich.

It is fairly unpleasant to ride in the cold!

Went for a short ride on my bike today. This helped me to remember something from when I used to ride motorcycles – over 40 years ago: it is fairly unpleasant to ride in the cold! That’s why we put our motorcycles away for the Winter. It was 11C or 51.8F outside (not even real cold!) when I left home today (dressed warmly) – intending to ride 30K or 35K. After a short while, I turned back and rode for home – 8.6K ride total – just too unpleasant.  My wonderful eBike is now “put-up” until Spring and warmer temperatures come back.

Grass Fire behind our Townhouse Complex

Grass Fire behind our Townhouse Complex tonight at about 5:00 p.m. on the land between us and the Freeway. We were okay because the wind was moving the fire away from us. Some excitement though! Cathy was quite scared for a while. Angela saw the smoke rising when she drove home – had to park a little way away because of the Fire Trucks – then ran home to make sure it was still there!
